Business Trip to Columbia, Missouri (2)

夕食は訪問先の会社の人に Chris MacD's というレストランに連れて行ってもらいました (泊まったホテルから車で15分くらい行くと一応街中に出て、ちゃんとレストランもありました)。前菜にスモークサーモンを注文。ソースがスパイシーでおいしい。 For dinner, our business partner brought us to the restaurant called Chris MacD's (~15 min driving from our hotel; at least some nice restaurants in the city center!).  This is the smokes salmon that we ordered from the appetizer menu.  The sauce was spicy and good.

もう一つの前菜は海老と蟹の入ったディップのようなもの。この時点でかなり満腹。 This is the another appetizer, shrimp and crab meat dip.  I was already pretty full at this time.

中西部に来たならやはりステーキということで私が注文したのがこの一皿。 Since we were in the Midwest, I thought I'd better order steak.  This is the beef tenderloin filet.

ミディアムレアで焼いてもらいました。お肉はとっても柔らかかったですが、おなかいっぱいすぎて半分くらいしか食べられませんでした。最初に飛ばしすぎたのが失敗ですね。残念。 I requested it medium rare.  The meat was very tender and good, but I was so full that I could eat only half of it.  I regretted that I ate too much appetizer...

ステーキの付け合せに野菜も注文しました。食べすぎです。この後ホテルへ帰り、同行の E さんとホテルのバー (というほどしゃれたものではありませんでしたが) でコーヒーを飲みながらしばらくおしゃべりした後、眠りました。 I also ordered the side vegetables (ordered too much!).  After coming back to the hotel,  Mr. E (a colleague who came with me) and I talked for a while over the cup of coffee at the bar (?) before going to bed.

次の日は朝7時過ぎから訪問先の会社へ向かいます。道の名前がなぜかアルファベット (これは DD 通りの標識)。道の両側は見渡す限りとうもろこし畑。 In the next morning at 7 am, we headed to the company we were visiting.  Somehow the names of many roads are alphabets (this is the sign for DD Street).  There are only corn fields in our sight...

途中にはこんな放水設備もありました。これと同じの、フランスの麦畑で見たなあ。その後、訪問先の会社 (見た目は農場か牧場にしか見えない) で私たちの発注した実験を見学したり、施設を案内してもらったりして一日を過ごし、ボストンに帰ってきました。家に着いたのは夜11時半。かなり疲れました。 This is the equipment to water the fields (I don't know its name).  I saw the same thing in wheat fields in France.

Business Trip to Columbia, Missouri (1)

今日から一泊二日でミズーリ州のコロンビアというところへ出張です。ボストンからは直行の飛行機はないため、テネシー州のメンフィスで乗り換えです。かなり小さい飛行機。 Today I am on a business trip to Columbia Missouri.  There is no direct flight from Boston to Columbia, so I needed to transfer at Memphis, Tennessee.  The airplane I took from Boston was rather small...

座席はファーストクラスにアップグレイドされました。ラッキー！ファーストクラスは一応お昼ごはんも出ます。クスクスのサラダとチキン。クスクスは味がしない上に、くっついて団子状になってます。半分以上残してしまいました。 My seat was upgraded to the first class where lunch was served.  The grilled chicken and couscous salad.  The grains of couscous were aggregated and formed small balls (and no taste)...  I couldn't eat even half of it...

メンフィスの空港にはエルビスプレスリーにちなんだものがたくさんありました。写真左端にチラッと見えているお店はエルビスグッズ専門のお店です。 The Memphis airport has many Elvis related shops and decorations.

機内で出されたお昼ご飯には満足できなかったので、乗り換えの便を待つ間にこの Blue Note Cafe というところで2回目のお昼ご飯。多分 NY の Blue Note とは関係ないと思います。 Since I was not satisfied with the lunch served on the plane, I went to Blue Note Cafe to have the second lunch while waiting for the connection flight.

南部でよく食べられるキャットフィッシュ (なまず) のフライ。付け合せはブラックアイドピーとフレンチフライ。 The fried catfish, black-eyed peas and French fries.

おなかも膨れたところでコロンビアへ出発です。飛行機の窓から見えた川はミシシッピ川でしょうか？ Then my flight departed to Columbia on time.  I guess the river I saw from the window is the Mississippi river (but I am not sure).

コロンビアの空港 (超小さい空港) からホテルへの道。な～んにもありません。今日はこれから業者の人と夕食を食べに行くだけなのでのんびりできます。こんなところにレストランなんてあるのかちょっと不安ですが...。 This is the picture I took on the way from the Columbia airport (which is very very small) to the hotel.  There was nothing...
