Trip to New Orleans Day 2 (2)

スワンプツアーの後、遅い昼食を Acme Oyster House で取りました。 After the swamp tour, we went to Acme Oyster House for late lunch.

このレストランは名前の通り、牡蠣で有名です。まずは生牡蠣半ダース。ここの生牡蠣は生臭くなくて、あまり磯の香りが得意ではない私にはぴったりの味！でももっと磯の風味が好きな人にとってはちょっと物足りないかも。 As its name indicates, this restaurant is famous for oysters.  First we ordered a half dozen of raw oysters.  I liked them since they were not too much of sea flavor, but some people may prefer a stronger flavor.

さらに、お店のおすすめ、牡蠣のグリル。これはちょっと上にチーズなどがのっていて、熱々で本当においしかったです。本当はもっと食べたかったのですが、夕食が控えているので半ダースだけ。 We also ordered a half dozen of chargrilled oysters, which was really good.  We could eat more, but since we had a dinner reservation, we gave up.

とは言いつつも、ガンボやジャンバラヤ等ルイジアナ名物がセットになったものも注文。でもここのガンボはいまいち。 However, we still ordered a combination plate which came with a cup of gumbo, jambalaya, etc.  But I did not like this plate very much.

夫はさらにパンをくりぬいた中にガンボの入ったものを注文。でもここでは牡蠣だけ注文することをお勧めします。 My husband also ordered the gumbo in a bread bowl.  But I recommend eating only oysters at this restaurant.

その後、ジャクソンスクウェアーの裏手にあるギャラリー街を歩いていると犬の作品ばかりを集めたギャラリーを発見！ウィンドーにはパグの置物が！ついついつられて中に入ってみると、さらにたくさんのパグが並んでいました。 Then, when we were walking in the gallery area behind the Jackson Square, we found a gallery which featured only dog-related stuff.  We found this ceramic Pug at the window, and could not resist to go inside.

これはそのうちの1つ。中に飾ってあったものは大きさも値段も手ごろだったので、可愛い顔のものを1つ購入しました。1つ1つが地元のアーティストによる手作りで、セラミックスでできたいます。ボストンに帰ったら写真を撮って、このブログにアップします！ Inside, there were more pugs.  This is one of them.  Each one of them is hand-made by a local artist, and made of ceramics.  I found a cute one (smaller and reasonable price), so I got it!  I'll upload its picture once I get back to Boston!

Trip to New Orleans Day 1 (1)

今日から6日間、学会に参加するためニューオーリンズへ行きます。月曜までの3日間は夫も一緒に滞在します。 For 6 days from today, I will be staying in New Orleans to attend a conference. Until Monday, my husband will be with me, too.

まずはボストンのローガン空港で朝ごはん。私は軽めにフルーツサラダを注文。 At first we had our breakfast at the Logan Airport in Boston. I ordered a fruit plate.

夫は早速がっつりと食べています。 My husband ordered a full breakfast plate.

ニューオーリンズの空港。結構湿度が高くて、暑いくらいです。 At the New Orleans Airport. It was humid and hot.

街にはあちこちにこんなジャズに関連した像が立っています。 There are many Jazz-related statues like this in the city.

ホテルにチェックイン後は早速お昼ごはん。有名なポーボーイのお店、Johnny's Po-Boys へやって来ました。 After checking in the hotel, we came to Johnny's Po-Poys, a famous po-boy restaurant.

私は海老のポーボーイ（ハーフサイズ）とシーフードガンボのコンビネーション。このポーボーイは想像していたよりもかなりおいしかったです。海老は大きくてぷりぷり、衣はかりとして、でも脂っこくない！マヨネーズも海老の邪魔にならないよう、ほんの少しだけ。 I ordered a combo plate with shrimp po-boy (half portion) and seafood gumbo.  This po-boy was much better than I expected!  Shrimp were big and juicy and were fried very crispy, but not oily.  There was only a little bit of mayo, which was good enough to add the flavor, and did not overwhelm the shrimp taste.

夫は白身魚のポーボーイ（ハーフサイズ）と同じくシーフードのガンボのコンビネーション。こちらもびっくりするほどおいしかったです。パンがこれまたおいしい！ My husband ordered a combo plate with cattle fish po-boy and seafood gumbo.  We were amazed by these plates.  The bread was also very crusty (which I like) and very good.

ガンボもシーフードの出汁がよくきいていて2人とも大満足。 The gumbo also had a very good seafood flavor.  We were quite happy with our first meal in New Orleans.

フレンチクウォーターにはあちこちにバーがあって、みんな歩きながらビールを飲んでいました。 There are many bars in French Quater and we saw many people walking and drinking!

フレンチクウォーターの建物は素敵ですね。 I love the archetectures in French Quarter.
