Lunch at Neptune Oyster

今日はまたまた North End にある Neptune Oyster へやって来ました。まずはボケロネス (カタクチ鰯の酢漬け) 入りのシーザーサラダ。 Today we came to Neptune Oyster in North End again.  First we ordered the Caesar salad with boquerones.

写真がちょっとぼけてますが、ペコリノチーズがたっぷりかかっていてかなりおいしいサラダでした (お値段高めですが)。 This picture does not look very good, bu the salad had a lot of pecorino cheese and was very tasty (although it was a bit pricey).

今日のメインディッシュはフィッシュタコス。2つのタコスそれぞれに2切れの巨大なお魚のフライが入っていてボリュームたっぷり。 For the main, we ordered the fish tacos.  Each taco had two big pieces of fried fish.

お魚はサーモンと鱈 (?) の2種類。お魚は両方ともジューシー。付け合せのサラダがさっぱりしていてお魚のフライに良く合います。 Two kinds of fish were used - salmon and cod (?).  Both were very juicy.  I also loved two kinds of salad (carrots and cabbage) - very refreshing.

そしてやっぱりはずせない、ロブスターロール。 And the must item, the lobster roll (hot with butter).

いつも通り、バターたっぷりのパンにロブスターがごろごろ入っていて、おいしい~。何回食べても飽きません。また近いうちに食べにきます! As always, lots of big lobster chunks and buttery bun - so yummy!  I can eat it every day!  We'll be back soon again.

Lunch at Neptune Oyster

今日のお昼ご飯はボストンのイタリア人街、North End にある Neptune Oyster で食べるべることにしました。私達は開店前から早めに来て並んでいたのですぐに入れましたが、開店時にはお店の前は相変わらず長蛇の列。 For today's lunch, we came to Neptune Oyster in North End.  We arrived early before the restaurant was open to get a table (and we got a nice table), but by the time it was open, the line was very, very long...

まず最初に蒸し蛤。 At first, we ordered the steamed Wellfleet littlenecks.

身はそれほど大きくはありませんでしたがワインとニンニクたっぷりでおいしい～。でもちょっと砂がありました。 The clams were not too big, but the sauce had lots of wine and garlic and tasted yummy~.  But it had some sands...

これはヨーロピアンシーバスのクルード。メニューにはシーバスではなく "Bronzini" と書いてあって、お店の人に聞くと白身の魚だというので頼んでみたのですが出てきたのはほんのちょびっとだけで $15 もしたのにそれがシーバスだったとはちょっとがっかり。まあ身は引き締まってまずまずの味でしたが。 This is the European seabass crudo.  In the menu it said "Bronzini" crudo and we were told it was the white fish, so we tried it.  But the portion was very small and it was $15 - if I have known it was seabass, I wouldn't have had ordered it...  But the meat was nicely firm and not too bad...

お待ちかね、ロブスターロール! このロブスターロールはほぼすべてのテーブルの人がオーダーしてました (私たちの隣に座った4人組は4人全員これを注文)。 And finally, the lobster roll!  This is one of the most popular dish here.  Almost all of the tables ordered this (all of 4 people sitting next to our table ordered this).

バターたっぷりのパンにロブスターがごろごろと入ってます。これはいつ食べてもやっぱりおいしい~!! Many big chunks of lobster meat in the buttery roll - soooo good as always.

そしてもう一品、North End 風チョッピーノ。鮭、鰹 (?)、蛤、ムール貝、海老とサフランライスの入ったシチュー。ソースがピリ辛で魚介の出汁がよく出ていてこれまたおいし。2人で全部平らげたらおなかいっぱいになりました。私達の帰る頃にお店に来た人は2時間待ちと言われてました。 And one more dish - North End chippino. It had salmon, skipjack tuna (?), clams, mussels, shrimp and saffron rice.  It was spicy and very good, too.  We were so full after we ate them all...  By the time we left, the waiting time to get a table was 2 hours...

その後は周辺を Poirot と一緒にお散歩。 After the lunch we took a walk around the area with Poirot.

暑い中を結構歩いた後、Long Wharf 前の芝生で休憩。この時点で Poirot の顔はもうへろへろ。 We walked for a long time in the warm weather, and took a break on the grass near Long Wharf.  Poirot already looked sooo exhausted...

ちょっと休憩したら眠くなったのか、大あくびを連発してました。 And he got sleepy...  He yawned many times...

その後また車を止めてあった North End まで戻って来て、ジェラートを食べました。今回は柑橘系のフレーバー、グレープフルーツとリモンチェッロを選んでみました。どちらもさっぱりとした味でおいし~。Poirot にもほんの少しだけおすそ分けしたら喜んでました~。 Then we went back to North End where we parked our car, and got some gelato.  Today I chose grapefruit and limoncello flavors - both were very light, sour and refreshing.  I gave a little bit of it to Poirot - he loved it, too!!

Lunch at Captain Carlos

今日は暖かく、お天気も良かったので、家から車で３０分位の所にある Gloucester という アメリカで一番古い港町へやって来ました。お昼ごはんは Captain Carlos で食べることに。 Since it was nice and warm today, we came to Gloucester, the America's oldest seaport (~30 min drive from our home).  First we stopped at Captain Carlos for lunch.

外のデッキにあるテーブルに座りました。そのすぐ横は海です。 We sat at one of the outside tables and right next to us was the ocean.

Poirot はデッキ内には入れないので柵の外に繋いだのですが、柵に掛かっている網をくぐって、こっちに来たそうにしてました。 Poirot was not allowed in the deck, so we tied him outside - but he really wanted to join us.

私は New England clam bake を注文。といってもこのレストランのは伝統的な clam bake ではなく、クラムチャウダー、蛤を蒸したもの、そしてロブスターがセットになったものでした。スープはかなりクリーミーで、たっぷり蛤が入ってました。 I ordered the New England clam bake, but it was not the traditional clam bake and rather, it was the combination of a cup of clam chowder, steamers and a steamed lobster (+ 2 side dishes).  The chowder was very thick and creamy and had lots of clams.

お料理が運ばれてくるといてもたってもいられなくなった Poirot は体を乗り出して舌なめずり。でも残念ながらあなたの食べられるものはありませんから。 Once he saw us eating, Poirot couldn't help trying to get inside the deck - Sorry, Poirot.  We have nothing for you....

そしてこれが蛤を蒸したもの。こちらの人はなんにでも溶かしバターを付けて食べますが、私達はレモン汁だけで頂きました。おいしいのですが砂がたっぷり入ってるので (今まで海辺のレストランで食べた大概の蒸し蛤には砂が入ってました) 食べにくいです。どこのお店でも砂を洗い流す用に、蒸したときに出てくる蛤の汁が小さなボールに入って出てくるのですが、それでもやっぱり砂が残ってしまいます。 And came the steamers.  They were big and tasted not bad, but had lots of sands...  Even rinsing them in the accompanied broth did not help much...

かわいそうな Poirot 君は私達が食べてる間、ず～っとこっちを見てました。 Poor Poirot...  He was staring at us for the entire time we were eating...

そしていよいよロブスターの登場です。ちなみにサイドディッシュも２つ好きなのを選べます (ベイクドポテトとコールスローにしました)。いつものように夫に身を全部取り出してもらって食べました。新鮮でおいしい！ And finally a lobster arrived!  As usual, my husband removed the meat from the shell for me.  It was fresh and nice.

夫はロブスターロールを注文したのですが、これはかなりおいしくない。冷凍したのを解凍して出したんじゃないかというような食感と味でした。残念。 My husband ordered a lobster roll, but this was not good at all - I think it was frozen and thawed.  It was kind of mussy texture and no flavor...  Disappointing.

食後はすぐ近くにある Stage Fort Park でお散歩。 After the lunch, we took a nice walk in the Stage Fort Park.

広々としていて、ほとんど人もいなかったので、Poirot を自由に走らせることができました。大喜びの Poirot はあちこち駆け回っていたのですが、しばらくすると大きな木に向かって一目散に走っていきました。 Not many people were in the park, so we let Poirot run freely.  He was running around very happily for awhile, then suddenly ran toward a big tree very fast.

そして木の陰に入ったとたん、パタンと倒れるように寝転がってしまいました。疲れたから涼しいところで休憩したかったようです。ちゃんとどこが涼しい場所か分かってるんやね~。 And as soon as he got under the shadow of the tree, he laid down and took a rest - he know where the coolest and most comfortable spot was!

ここのビーチは石だらけで靴を履いてても歩くのがちょっと大変。 The beach was very stony and it was difficult to walk even with my shoes on.

でも Poirot はへっちゃらな様子であちこち歩き回ってました。 But Poirot didn't mind it at all and walked around the beach.

ゆっくり歩いていた私をちゃんと待っていてくれる Poirot。優しいね~。

He waited for me as I couldn't walk fast enough on these stones.  He is always so kind to me!

ボートを楽しんでいる人たちもたくさんいました。うらやましい。今日は本当に暖かく、海辺でも半日たっぷり楽しめました。 Many people were enjoying their boats.  So jealous!  I want a boat (or a friend who has a boat), too!  The weather was so nice even at the shore, and we enjoyed spending a half day in the area.

Lunch at Clam Box

今日は約1年ぶりに Ipswich にある Clam Box へ蛤のフライを食べにやって来ました。ボストンからは車で40分ほどなので気軽に来られます。 Today we came to Clam Box in Ipswich, MA, to get some fried clams.  It's been almost a year since we came here last time.  It's only ~40 min drive from Boston.

外でも食べられるのですが、今日は肌寒かったのでお店の中で食べることにしました。入り口付近にある窓口で注文して、自分の番号が呼ばれたら取りに行きます。 Outside tables were also available, but it was chilly today and we decided to eat inside the restaurant.

これが蛤のフライ。スモールを頼んだのですがそれでもかなりたくさん入ってます。身が大きくて、去年食べたものより味が濃くておいしい気がします。多分その日に採れた蛤によって当たり・はずれがあるんでしょうね。 This is the small box of fried clams (but so many clams in there).  Clams were very big, rich in flavors and yummy.  We both thought that this one was better than that we had last year.  Maybe it depends on the quality of clams available on that day.

さらにホタテのフライ＆オニオンリングも注文。 We also had the fried scallop mini-meal (which came with one side and we chose onion rings).

このホタテがまたとってもジューシーで甘くて大満足。オニオンリングもおいしかったのですがさすがに揚げ物ばっかりで最後のほうはちょっと胸焼けがしてきました。 These scallops were very good - big, juicy, tender and sweet.  We loved the onion rings, too, but had too much fried food and got heartburn afterwords...

食後車で辺りをドライブしていると誰もいないビーチがあったので行ってみることに。 After the lunch we drove around the area and found a tiny beach.

でもとても風が強くて寒かったので、ほんの少しだけ Poirot と散歩してすぐに退散しました。また暖かくなったらゆっくり散歩しに来たいと思います。 We walked around a bit, but it was too cold to stay longer at this beach - so we just let Poirot do his business and drove back to Boston.  I would like to come back again when the weather gets warmer...

Greenway Mobile Food Festival

今日はフードトラック (トラックを改造して屋台風にしたもの) のフェスティバルがあると聞いて、曇り空で肌寒い中 Greenway までやって来ました。ミニコンサートやフードコンテストもやってました (でもお天気のせいか聴衆は少なかったような…)。 I heard that Mobile Food Festival were being held today, so we came to Greenway to try some out.  Various activities including performances by local bands, food contests, etc., were also going on (although not so many people probably due to cloudy, cold weather).

全部で30店近くあったと思うのですが、私達はまず Mei Mei Street Kitchen という中華 (風) の屋台に挑戦。 I think more around 30 food trucks were there.  First we tried Mei Mei Street Kitchen, a Chinese-American food truck.

これはこごみの天麩羅。まずまずの味。 This is the fiddlehead fern tempura.  Not too bad.

こちらは自家製のパンに中華風の味付けをした豚肉をほぐしたものが挟まったサンドイッチ。これはどんな味だったかあまり印象に残ってません。 This is the Chinese pulled pork on house baked bun - I don't remember how it tasted (not too impressibe, I guess).

次に試したのが Lobsta Love というロブスターの屋台。ここにはかなり人が並んでました。 Next we went to Lobsta Love truck.  Many people were making a line here.

ロブスタースライダーを注文したのですが、値段 ($6) の割りにかなり小さくてロブスターの味も普通。後で友人に聞いたところ、ロブスターのマカロニ&チーズがおいしいそうです。 We ordered the lobster slider, but it was kind of small for the price ($6), and the lobster was just OK.  Later my friend told me that I should have tried their lobster mac & cheese...  Maybe next time...

そしてさらに夫のリクエストにより、BBQ のお店、Redbones へやって来ました。 My husband requested to try Redbones, a BBQ truck.

注文したのは多分セントルイススタイルのポークリブ。いろいろなソースが置いてあって、自分の好みのソースをつけて楽しむことができます。 He ordered (I think) St. Luis style pork ribs.  Many different kinds of sauce were also available to try (we had he moderately spicy sauce).

リブを見たとたん、Poirot 君の目がきら~っと光ました。 As soon as he found out we got the ribs, Poirot's eyes became wide open and shinny!

何とかリブにありつこうと必死で背伸びしてテーブルの上を覗いています。このリブはとっても柔らかくてお肉がほろほろと骨からはずれ、おいしかったです。Poirot に食べ終わった後の骨をやったら大喜びでした。 Poiro stretched as much as he could, hoping he could reach to our ribs on the table...  The ribs were very tender and tasty (meat fell out from bone very, very easily).  I gave Poirot one of the bones after I ate the meat, and he was sooo happy.

まだなんか物足りなかった私は次に Bon Me というベトナム料理の屋台へとやって来ました。 I was still not very full, so tried another truck, Bon Me, which served Vietnamese cuisine.

ビーフンのサラダを頼み、いくつか選べる中からチキンをトッピングしてもらいました。これもまあ普通の味。フードトラックって値段の割りに質も量もいまいちで普通のレストランでお昼を食べるくらいお金を使ったので満足感はは余りありませんでした。お天気がよかったらもう少し楽しめたかも。 I ordered the rice noodle salad with chicken.  It was just OK, too.  Food trucks, in general, serve over-priced mediocre foods (of course there are some exceptions), and I was not fully satisfied with the dishes we had today.  Maybe it could have been a better experience if the weather had been nicer...
