North End with Poirot

今日は夫と Poirot と一緒に North End へ行って来ました。今日は暑かったので行きの車では少しでもエアコンの風に当たろうと体を前に乗り出して座っていた Poirot 君。 Today my husband and I went to North End with Poirot.  It was very hot today and Poirot tried to cool him down by coming close to the AC in the car.

まずは Neptune Oyster でお昼ご飯。 First, we had the lunch at Neptune Oyster.

生牡蠣～。今回は6種類の牡蠣 (Wellfleet, Island Creek, Wianno, Ninigret, Glidden Point, Summerside) を2つずつ注文。私のお気に入りは Glidden Point。Island Creek も好きなのですが、今日のはいまいち。 The raw oysters!  This time we ordered 2 each of 6 different kinds (Wellfleet, Island Creek, Wianno, Ninigret, Glidden Point, Summerside).  My favorit was Glidden Point.  I usually like Island Creek, but today they did not taste as good.

帆立貝のクルード。帆立が超甘くて、柔らかいんだけどしっかり歯ごたえも合っておいしい！ The scallop crudo.  The scallops were very sweet, tender yet firm.  Very good.

キハダマグロのクロスティーニ。マグロがたっぷり乗ってます。ちょっと酸っぱいソースと好相性。 The yellowfin crostini.  Acidity of the sauce was a very good match with fatty tuna.

ネプチューン・オン・ピギーバックという名前の一品。スライスしたバゲットの上に牡蠣のフライ、ポークなどが乗っています。 The Neptunes on Piggyback, consisted of  fried oysters, Berkshire pig, golden raisin confiture and pistachio aioli on top of slices of baguette.

この牡蠣のフライは最高においしい! The oysters were perfectly fried - so yummy.

お昼ごはんの後は Poirot も一緒に North End を散策。デザートにジェラートを食べることに。 After the lunch, we had some gelato for dessert.

マンゴーのジェラートとパッションフルーツのジェラート。 The mango and passion fruit gelato.

それまで暑くて床に寝そべっていたくせに、アイスクリームを見たとたんに飛び起きた Poirot。瞳がきら～っと輝いています。 As soon as my husband came back to the table with our cups of gelato, Poirot, who had been laying down on the floor, jumped up!  His eyes became so shiny!

最後にちょっと残ったのをやると、すごい勢いでカップを嘗め回してました。顔中にアイスクリームが飛び散ってすごいことになっています。 We gave him a little bit of ice cream in the cup, and he licked the cup like crazy.  Lots of ice cream splashed all over his face!

今日は本当に暑い日で、ただでさえ喉が渇くのに、ジェラートを食べたらさらに喉の渇きが増してしまいました。そこで、店先で売っていたレモンのスラッシュを買ってみました。 It was really hot today, and the gelato made us thirsty.  Then we found lemon slash sold in front of the shop - so we tried it.

かなり年季の入っていそうなアイスクリーム製造機で作られています。 It was made in this very old ice cream maker.

酸っぱくてさっぱりしていておいしい～。私はジェラートよりもこっちの方が好きです。 It was sour and very refreshing!  I love slush more than gelato..

その後、Government Center の方に歩いていくと、何やら催し物をやっている様子。気になったので立ち寄ってみました。 Then we found something was going on in Government Center.

どうやらアフリカンフェアーみたいな感じで、アフリカ各国の装飾品や民族衣装などを売っていました。 It was an African fair (I don't know the official name of the event).  African sculptures, clothes, etc were sold.

ライブミュージックもありました。 They played live music, too.

でも、もちろん私達の興味は食べ物! 国ごとにテントを張って、色々なお料理を売り出しています。 But of course our interest was in food!  Each country had their booth selling various kinds of interesting dishes.

今まで食べたことのないようなお料理もあって、興味深いです。 There were many dishes I've never tasted.

これは焼き鳥みたいな感じ。 This was grilled skewed chicken.

これは何なのかよくわかりません。 I don't know what they are...

私達はおなかいっぱいだったのですが、せっかくなので何か食べてみることに。これはカメルーンのお料理で、スパイスで味付けした牛肉の揚げパンみたいなもの。なかなかおいしい。 Although we were full, we still wanted to taste  - so we tried small snacks.  This is the fried dough stuffed with spiced beef (a dish from Cameroon).  It was not bad.

これはリベリアのデザートで揚げドーナツみたいな感じ。甘さ控えめでおいしかったのですが、ちょっと口の中でもそもそするので何か飲み物と一緒に食べた方がよかったかも。 This is the dessert from Liberia.  It was something similar to donuts.  It was not too sweet and good, but was bit too dry.

Poirot はこの暑さに耐えられず、ベンチに座り込んでしまいました。お疲れ。 It was way too hot for Poirot, and he couldn't walk any longer!  Sorry, Poirot, you must have been sooo exhausted...
