Trip to NYC - DC - NJ - Day 2 (2)

美術館を満喫した後は、橋を渡ってすぐのところにあるヴァージニア州アーリントンまでやって来ました。ここにはアーリントン国立墓地があります。 ケネディー大統領など有名人のお墓もありますが、ほとんどは一般市民 (戦没者) のお墓です。 After enjoying the museums, we crossed the Potomac river and came to the Arlington side.  This is the Arlington National Cemetary.

Poirot と合衆国海兵隊記念碑。これはアメリカ海兵隊の戦没者を追悼する記念碑で、硫黄島の戦いでのアメリカ海兵隊の星条旗掲揚の写真を元に作成されたらしいです。 Poirot and the Marine Corps War Memorial.

これは墓地の横にあるライオンのブロンズ像で、オランダからアメリカへの贈り物だそうです。ライオンと相似形の Poirot。 The statues of lions were the gift from the people of the Netherlands to the people of the USA.  Poirot looked like a small version of the lion!

川の向こうにある議事堂やワシントン記念塔がよく見えます。歩き疲れたのでこの後、ホテルへ戻りました。 Across the river, we could see the Capitol and the Washington Monument very well.

本当は夕食のレストランを予約してあったのですが、2人とも余りおなかがすいてなかったのと疲れていたのとで、予約はキャンセルしてホテルの近くのお店からテイクアウトすることにしました。Yelp (日本でいう食べログのようなサイト) で調べるとまあまあ評判のよいアフガニスタン料理のお店 (Food Corner Kabob House) が歩いて2~3分の所にあったので、トライしてみることに。注文したお料理を待っている間、スープを出してくれました。スパイシーでおいしい! We had a dinner reservation at a restaurant, but we were tired and also not very hungry.  So we decided to cancel our reservation, order takeout foods and eat  them in our room.  I checked Yelp and found an Afghan restaurant (Food Corner Kabob House) with good reviews near our hotel.  While we were waiting for our order, they served us a small cup of the chicken soup.  It was a bit spicy and good.

私が注文したのは Shami Kabob という牛挽肉のグリル。ライスとサラダ付です。香ばしくてなかなかいけます。 I ordered the Shami Kabob, broiled ground beef.  It came with rice and salad.  I liked the flavor of the beef (lots of spices).

夫はアフガンスタイルのギロスにしました。私は食べてないので味は分かりませんが夫によるとこれはまあまあだったそうです。 My husband ordered the Afghan style gyro platter. I didn't taste it, but he said it was OK (he preferred mine).

それぞれのお料理にアフガンスタイルのパンが付いて来ます。ボリュームたっぷり! Each dish came with the Afghan style bread (which was very good).

隙あらばサイドテーブルに置いてあるパンを盗み食いしようと狙う Poirot。まあ本当に盗み食いすることは (めったに) ありませんが、たぶんじーっとパンを見つめることで私たちに”僕はパンが食べたいんだ～”とアピールしてるんだと思います。 He fixed his eyes on my bread on the bedside table - he doesn't usually steal our food, but I think he was expressing his feeling ("I want to eat that bread, too!!") by staring at it.

しばらくするとソファーでリラックスし始めた Poirot 君。 After his own dinner, Poirot started to relax and lie down on the sofa.

今夜はソファーで寝てくれる (昨夜は私達のベッド、それも私の両足の間で寝たので、あまりよく寝られなかった) と思い、持参した毛布を敷いてやると爆睡し始めました。 I thought he would sleep on the sofa tonight (last night he slept with me (between my legs!) on the bed and I couldn't sleep very well), and brought him his blanket.  Then he completely fell asleep!

でも私がベッドに入るとすぐ起き上がってまた私の上に!! まあ、今は旅行中で特別ということで、許してあげよう! But as soon as I hopped into my bed, he woke up and jumped on me!  Well, it was a special occasion, so I allowed him to sleep with me.
