Trip to France Day 2 (2) (Chartres)

シャルトル大聖堂は1979年にユネスコの世界遺産に登録されています。 Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres was selected to be a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979.

フランスにおける全てのゴシック建築の大聖堂で最も素晴らしいものの中の一つといわれています。 This cathedral is considered one of the finest examples in all France of the Gothic style of architecture.

窓にはステンドグラスが施されています。 Stained glass windows.

ステンドグラス作品は大部分が16世紀の宗教戦争での損失を免れたそうです。このステンドグラス郡は特にシャルトルブルーと呼ばれるその鮮やかな青い色で有名。今の技術でもこの青い色はなかなか出せないそうです。 Most of the stained glass windows escaped harm during the religious wars of the 16th century.  The windows are particularly renowned for their vivid blue color called "Chartres blue".  I heard that even with the current technology, it would be difficult to create this blue color.

私の下手な写真では実際の美しい色を再現できませんが、実物は本当にきれい。 The pictures (especially with my techniques) can't do justice - the real ones are much more beautiful.

ステンドグラス以外にもすばらしい装飾がたくさんあります。 Besides the stained glass, there are many beautiful decorations.

この狭～い階段を上って、塔の上に行くことができます。ちなみに、大聖堂に入るのは無料ですが、塔に登るには７€が必要です。 You can climb up the tower via these narrow steps.  It is free to enter the cathedral, but you need to pay €7 to go up the tower.

もともと狭い階段が、上に行くほどますます狭くなって、人一人分ほどの幅しかありません。それにかなりの数の階段なので、登りきるのがつらかったです。 The steps are very narrow to begin with, but they are getting narrower and narrower as going up.  Near the top of the tower, only one person can go through at a time.

でも苦労した甲斐あって、すばらしい眺めを楽しむことができました。上から見ると建物が十字架の形になっているのがわかります。 From the top of the tower, you can enjoy the beautiful view.
