Poirot and "Doggles"

Poirot の親友、来福君の (人間の) お父さんから犬用のゴーグル、その名も "ドーグル" をもらったので、早速試してみることに! Poirot's best friend, Laifu's (human) father gave him a pair of dog goggles called "doggles".  So we tried them on him!

Poirot は何がなんだかわからないようで、固まって動けなくなってしまいました。 Poirot didn't understand what was going on, and he completely froze until I took them off from him...

でもなかなか似合ってて、かっこいいと思います! But I think they looked very good on him and Poirot looked very cooool!!

Lunch at Neptune Oyster

今日のお昼ご飯はボストンのイタリア人街、North End にある Neptune Oyster で食べるべることにしました。私達は開店前から早めに来て並んでいたのですぐに入れましたが、開店時にはお店の前は相変わらず長蛇の列。 For today's lunch, we came to Neptune Oyster in North End.  We arrived early before the restaurant was open to get a table (and we got a nice table), but by the time it was open, the line was very, very long...

まず最初に蒸し蛤。 At first, we ordered the steamed Wellfleet littlenecks.

身はそれほど大きくはありませんでしたがワインとニンニクたっぷりでおいしい～。でもちょっと砂がありました。 The clams were not too big, but the sauce had lots of wine and garlic and tasted yummy~.  But it had some sands...

これはヨーロピアンシーバスのクルード。メニューにはシーバスではなく "Bronzini" と書いてあって、お店の人に聞くと白身の魚だというので頼んでみたのですが出てきたのはほんのちょびっとだけで $15 もしたのにそれがシーバスだったとはちょっとがっかり。まあ身は引き締まってまずまずの味でしたが。 This is the European seabass crudo.  In the menu it said "Bronzini" crudo and we were told it was the white fish, so we tried it.  But the portion was very small and it was $15 - if I have known it was seabass, I wouldn't have had ordered it...  But the meat was nicely firm and not too bad...

お待ちかね、ロブスターロール! このロブスターロールはほぼすべてのテーブルの人がオーダーしてました (私たちの隣に座った4人組は4人全員これを注文)。 And finally, the lobster roll!  This is one of the most popular dish here.  Almost all of the tables ordered this (all of 4 people sitting next to our table ordered this).

バターたっぷりのパンにロブスターがごろごろと入ってます。これはいつ食べてもやっぱりおいしい~!! Many big chunks of lobster meat in the buttery roll - soooo good as always.

そしてもう一品、North End 風チョッピーノ。鮭、鰹 (?)、蛤、ムール貝、海老とサフランライスの入ったシチュー。ソースがピリ辛で魚介の出汁がよく出ていてこれまたおいし。2人で全部平らげたらおなかいっぱいになりました。私達の帰る頃にお店に来た人は2時間待ちと言われてました。 And one more dish - North End chippino. It had salmon, skipjack tuna (?), clams, mussels, shrimp and saffron rice.  It was spicy and very good, too.  We were so full after we ate them all...  By the time we left, the waiting time to get a table was 2 hours...

その後は周辺を Poirot と一緒にお散歩。 After the lunch we took a walk around the area with Poirot.

暑い中を結構歩いた後、Long Wharf 前の芝生で休憩。この時点で Poirot の顔はもうへろへろ。 We walked for a long time in the warm weather, and took a break on the grass near Long Wharf.  Poirot already looked sooo exhausted...

ちょっと休憩したら眠くなったのか、大あくびを連発してました。 And he got sleepy...  He yawned many times...

その後また車を止めてあった North End まで戻って来て、ジェラートを食べました。今回は柑橘系のフレーバー、グレープフルーツとリモンチェッロを選んでみました。どちらもさっぱりとした味でおいし~。Poirot にもほんの少しだけおすそ分けしたら喜んでました~。 Then we went back to North End where we parked our car, and got some gelato.  Today I chose grapefruit and limoncello flavors - both were very light, sour and refreshing.  I gave a little bit of it to Poirot - he loved it, too!!

Brunch at Winsor Dim Sum Cafe

今日はチャイナタウンにある飲茶のお店、溫莎點心美食 (Winsor Dim Sum Café) へブランチを食べに来ました。 Today we came to Winsor Dim Sum Café in China Town for brunch.

私の大好物、安蝦鹹水餃。おいし。 My favorite, deep fried dumpling made with sticky rice and filled with pork and vegetables.  Yummy~

干しイカを戻したものや豚肉 (?) 入りのお粥 (艇仔粥)。 The sampan congee.  It had dried squid, pork, etc.

油條入りの腸粉。作りたてでおいしい! The rice noodle rolls with fried dough.  Fresh as always.

海老と韮入りの蒸し餃子 (鮮蝦韭菜餃)。海老がぷりぷりでとってもジューシー。 The steamed shrimp and chive dumplings.  The skin was very thin and shrimp was succulent and juicy - Love this dumpling!

陳皮牛肉丸 (牛肉団子)。これは、このお店では初めて注文した品ですが、お肉がふわふわ (卵白入り?) で軽~い食感 The beef balls.  We ordered this dish first time at this restaurant - the meat was so light and airy (maybe had whipped egg white?).

これも初めて注文した上湯鮮竹巻という名前のお料理。豚肉などを湯葉で巻いたものです。超熱々で、口の中を火傷してしまいました。 This is the bean curd sheet rolls with pork in soup.  It was soooo hot and I burnt my mouth after one bite...

豚肉と海老入りのシュウマイ (蟹黃蝦燒賣)。これはいまいちってことを忘れてまた注文してしまったのですが、やっぱり他のに比べるとあんまりおいしくない。次回こそちゃんと覚えておいて、注文しないようにせねば。 The pork and shrimp dumplings. We knew this dish was not as good as other ones from our previous experience, but I forgot about it and order it again - it was not very good (not bad, but not as good) this time, either.  I'll remember next time not to order it.

カスタードクリーム入りの蒸しパン (香滑奶黃包) を夫に注文してもらったのですが、いつも真ん中にぽちっと付いているピンク色の点がなかったのでおかしいな~と思いながら中を割ってみると... I wanted to eat steamed custard buns, so my husband ordered it, but the buns we got did not have pink dots on them that we always saw at our previous visits.  I was wondering why, but opened up one of them anyway...

なんかいつものカスタードよりとろ~っとしています。実は間違えて卵の黄身入りの流沙飽というものを注文してしまったよう。 Inside was the bright yellow runny cream, not what I wanted to eat - it turned out that my husband ordered the wrong one which had egg yolk (steamed custerd and egg yolk buns).

私はどうしてもカスタードだけのものを食べたかったので、もう一度正しいのを注文してもらいました。こんどはちゃんと真ん中にピンクの点が付いています。 I really wanted to eat the custard buns, so I asked my husband to order the correct one.  This time, pink dots were on the buns!

やっぱりこっちのほうがおいしい～。満足、満足。 I still prefer this one!!  So satisfied!!

Lunch at Salty Pig

今日は他の用事で来たついでに、近くにあった Salty Pig というレストランで遅めのお昼ご飯を食べました。名前のとおり、豚料理がメインのお店です。 Today we had something to do at Copley Place, and we stopped by at Salty Pig for lunch afterwards.

ここは結構たくさんの種類のビールがあって、夫はお店の人に勧められたのを注文。見た目より苦い味だったそうです。 They offered wide variety of draft beer, and my husband ordered one of the recommended beer by our waiter (he said it tasted bitterer than it looked).

夫はブランチメニューの中から (多分バークシャーポーク) 豚ばら肉のハッシュをオーダー。 My husband ordered the (I believe) Berkshire pork belly hash from the brunch menu.

ハッシュは表面がかなり焦げてましたが味はまあまあ。 The surface of the hash was burned, but the taste was not bad.

このレストランはシャキュトリー (とチーズ) がメインで、たくさんある中から自分で好きなのを選んでプレートを作ることができます。私はイタリア産のポルケッタとバーモント州産の Moses Sleeper という牛のチーズを頼んでみました。お肉もチーズも結構おいしかったです。 The specialty of this restaurant is the charcuterie / cheese.  You can pick ones you like to make your own charcuterie plate.  I chose Italian porchetta and cow milk cheese called "Moses Sleeper" from Vermont.  Both meat and cheese were quite good.

最後、お会計のレシートが落書き帳みたいなのに挟まって出てきました。たくさんの人がメッセージや絵を書き残していて思わず読みふけってしまいました。ショッピングモールのすぐ近くにあるのでお買い物のついでにちょっと立ち寄るのに便利です。 At the end we got the bill was put in a notebook.  Many people wrote messages.  It is conveniently located in Back Bay, and we may visit here after shopping in the future.

Dinner at Penang

今日はチャイナタウンにあるマレーシア料理のお店、Penang へ夕食を食べにやって来ました。 Today we came to Penang, a Malaysian restaurant in China Town.

これはいつも注文するロティチャナイ。インド料理のナンを向こうが透けて見えるくらい薄～く延ばしたような感じの生地をカレーソースにつけて食べます。生地はもちっと弾力があってとってもおいしいです。 This is the home made roti canai (crispy style pancake & curry chicken dipping sauce) which we always order at this restaurant.  I love this bread which is very thin but chewy – very good with the curry sauce.

3そしてこれもほぼ毎回注文する海南鶏。私は胸肉のみを食べて残りの腿肉や骨の周りのお肉は夫に食べてもらいます。鶏肉自体はあっさりしてますが、ソースがピリ辛でご飯が進みます。 And this is also our must-order item, the Hainanese chicken (half size).  As usual, I only ate white meat and my husband ate dark meat.  The meat itself is very light but with the hot sauce, it is very good with rice.

鶏の油で炒めたお米を鶏のスープで炊いた雞油飯。海南鶏にはやっぱり雞油飯が相性ばっちりです。 For the rice, the steamed-chicken flavored rice is the best match with this dish.

空心菜と腐乳ペーストの炒め物も注文。 We also ordered the watercress with preserved bean curd paste.

そしてこれは今回始めて注文したクリスタルヌードルのグレービーソース和え。 And this is the crystal noodles in gravy sauce, which we have never ordered before.

出てきたときは一瞬鍋焼きうどんかと思いましたが、麺は3cmくらいの短いもので、スープはとろ～っととろみのある、でもたぶんチキンベースのあっさりした味。まずくはないですが、特においしいとも思いませんでした。たぶん次からは注文しないと思います。 The noodles were very short (1~1.5 inch long), and the soup was probably chicken base and thick in texture but very light in flavor.  It was not bad, but not very tasty, either.  I wouldn’t order it again next time.

そしてデザートに夫の好物、ABC という名前のかき氷。ABC という名前の由来はわかりませんがバラのシロップと練乳 (?) のかかった氷の下には小豆、緑豆、ゼリーやその他色々なものが隠れています。日本のかき氷とは違いかなりこってり味。おなかいっぱいで満足。残った分は持って帰って次の日の夕ご飯になりました。 And for the dessert, we shared my husband’s favorite, the shaved ice called “ABC”.  I don’t know why it is called ABC, but the shaved ice comes with red bean, corn, plam seeds, jelly, red rose syrup and milk.  We were both very full and satisfied at the end of the meal.  We brought the leftover home and had it for dinner next day!

Dinner at Pierrot Bistro Français

今日の夕方、病院に来る用事があったので、その後ついでに近くで夕食を食べて帰ることにしました。やってきたのは病院のすぐ向かい側にあるフレンチビストロのお店、Pierrot Bistro Français です。 This evening, I had to come to Massachusetts General Hospital, and decided to had our dinner at the nearby French bistro,  Pierrot Bistro Français (just across from the hospital).

バゲットは結構おいしくて (私的には中はもうちょっと軽くて穴がいっぱい開いてるほうが好みですが) おかわりしてしまいました。 I liked their baguette, especially the outside crust (although I prefer ones  that are lighter and with many holes inside).

私はまず始めにマッシュルームのソテーを注文。たぶん自分でも作れそうですが、ワインの味がよく効いていて茸大好きな私にはうれしい味でした。 I ordered the sautéed mushrooms for an appetizer. I know I can cook this by myself, but still it was good as I love mushrooms.

夫はエスカルゴ。私はエスカルゴ自体はあまり好きではないのですが、にんにくのたっぷり入ったソースは大好きで、今回もソースだけをパンにたっぷり付けて食べました。おいし～。 My husband chose the escargots à la Bourguignonne.  I don't really like escargots themselves, but love buttery, garlic-y sauce of this dish.  So I just dipped my bread into the sauce and ate it.  Very good~.

私が選んだメインディッシュはこのシーフードクレープ。 My main dish was the seafood crepe.

クレープの中には魚介の出汁がしっかり効いたベシャメルソースとイカ、海老などのシーフードが入ってました。トッピングのチーズがちょっっと多すぎて、クレープの生地自体の味や食感を邪魔してる感じでしたが、ソースは好みの味。 Inside the crepe were seafood (shrimp, squid, etc) and Béchamel sauce which had great flavors from seafood.  It had too much cheese on top which I thought overwhelmed the crepe, but I liked the sauce a lot.  I want to cook this dish at home (with less cheese).

夫は鴨胸肉のロースト。 My husband ordered the Magret de Canard (duck breast).

ミディアムレアで注文したのですが、中まで結構火が通ってました。でも夫によるとお肉は柔らかかったそうです。 He requested it medium-rare, but it was more like medium-well.  But he still liked it - he said teh meat was very tender.

デザートはグランマニエのスフレ! 2人前からのオーダーなので2人とも同じものを注文しました。熱々でとってもおいしかったのですが、私はおなかいっぱい過ぎて半分残してしまいました。1人前から注文できるといいのにな~。お店はビストロだけあってカジュアルで、お値段もお手ごろなので、これからもたまに訪れたいと思います。 For dessert, we ordered the Grand Marnier soufflé (minimum order was two, so we both ordered the same thing).  It was hot, soft and very tasty.  But I was too full to finish it all and left half of it.  This bistro serves very casual and traditional French cuisine at reasonable prices.  I'd love to come back here and explore other dishes.

Dinner at Highland Kitchen

今日はまたまたお気に入りのレストラン、Highland Kitchen へやって来ました。 Tonight we came again to Highland Kitchen, one of our favorite restaurants in Boston.

相変わらずたくさんの人たちで賑わってます。 As usual, the restaurant was very crowded.

私はまず前菜に今日のスペシャル、スウィートポテトのスープを注文。甘くてスパイスが効いてておいしい! First I ordered one of today's special, a cup of sweet potato soup.  It was sweet (in a good way) and spicy.  I loved it!

夫はまず豚バラをカリカリに焼いたものが入ったタコス。 My husband went for the crispy pork belly tacos (with tamarind hot sauce, pickled red onion and cotija cheese).

本当に豚肉がカリッとしていて、甘酸っぱくてちょっぴり辛いタマリンドソースと相性ぴったりです。 The pork belly was really crispy and a good match with the sweet, sour and a bit spicy tamarind sauce.

私はメインには久しぶりにチーズバーガーを食べることにしました。 For the main dish, I opted for the cheese burger.

焼き加減はミディアムで注文。ピクルスと玉葱をじっくり炒めたものが付いてくるのでお好みでバーガーに挟んで食べます。お肉はとってもジューシー! I ordered it medium.  It came with the mixed green (or french fries), pickles and caramelized red onion.  The meat was very juicy.

夫は今までこのレストランでは注文したことのなかったフィッシュアンドチップスに挑戦。 My husband tried the fish and chips.  This was the first time we ordered this dish here.

これは悪くはなかったのですが、今まで食べた中で一番おいしかったのに比べると衣が部分的にちょっとべとっとしてるところがありました。それでも平均よりはかなりおいしかったです。また近いうちに食べに来ま～す。 It was not bad at all (the fish itself was very juicy), but compared to the best fish and chips we ever had, some parts of the batter were a bit soggy.  But overall it was much better than the average.  We'll be back soon~.
