Dinner at Mulan

今日の夕食は友人家族と一緒に、台湾料理のレストラン、木蘭 (Mulan) へやってきました。彼らと会うのは久しぶりで、2人の息子さんが大きくなっていてびっくり。 Tonight we came to a Taiwanese restaurant, Mulan, with our friends (a couple + 2 little boys).  I haven't seen them for a quite long time and was shocked when I saw their kids - they are so big now!

旦那様の方がベジタリアンなので彼が食べられるものをいくつか注文 (もちろん私達はお肉料理も注文しましたが)。これはそのうちの一つ、糸瓜の煮物 (清炒絲瓜)。とってもあっさりとしていておいしい! One of them (husband) is the vegetarian, so we needed to order some vegetarian dishes (of course we ordered non-vegetarian dishes, too).  This is the sauteed luffa.  It was very light but flavorful.

これは台湾風焼きそば (台式炒麵)。日本の焼きそばとは味付けが違いますが、これはこれでなかなかいけます。 Taiwanese style chow mein.

鴨肉、豚の腸、イカと韮の炒め物 (韭黄三絲)。私は鴨や腸はあまり好きではないのでイカだけを食べましたが味は気に入りました。 Shredded duck, pig tripe, and squid with baby chives.  I don't like duck or tripe too much, so only tasted squid and vegetables, but I liked its taste.

これは薄く切ったお餅を野菜や牛肉などと一緒に炒めたもの (台式炒年糕)。味付けは多分先程の焼きそばと一緒。でもお餅好きな私にはこちらのほうがお気に入り。 And this is the stir-fried sticky rice cakes with beef and vegetables.  I believe it used the same sauce as the chow mein, but since I love rice cakes, I prefer this dish to the chow mein.

ベジタリアンとお肉入りの2種類の餃子も注文(三鮮水餃 & 素水餃)。こちらはたぶんベジタリアンのほう。見た目はいまいちですが、手作りの餃子の皮がもちっとしていてかなり高得点の味です。 We also ordered two kinds of dumplings - vegetarian and pork.  These are the vegetarian ones.  Home-made skins were very chewy (which I like), fresh and good!

韮入りのパイ (韭菜盒子)。私は食べなかったので味はわかりませんが、見た目はおいしそうでした。 I didn't taste this leek pie, but it looked yummy.

これは、初めて食べたパイ生地のようなもの(抓餅)。表面はさくさくですが、中はもちもちと弾力があります。生地自体には味は付いておらず、これだけ食べてもあまりおいしくはないのですが、他のお料理と一緒に食べるとおいしさ10倍くらいになります。 And this is the dish called "hundred layers pancake".  I've never had it before.  This pancake itself had no taste, but when it was eaten together with other dishes, it was sooo good!

食後はみんなで近くにあるアイスクリーム屋さん、Toscanini's へ! 写真左から、マンゴ、バナナ、塩サフランフレーバーです。サフランを味見させてもらいましたが、サフランの味 (といってもサフランがどんな味か良くわからないのですが) はあまりしなかったような。私の注文したバナナはまったりとおいしかったです。 After the dinner, we all went to Toscanini's for some ice cream.  We ordered mango, banana and salted saffron flavor.  I tried a bit of salted saffron ice cream, but I didn't taste any saffron.  I ordered the banana one, which was very rich and creamy.
