Two New Cafes in Melrose

5月の半ばに隣町の Melrose に立て続けに２軒、カフェがオープンしました。道路を挟んで斜め向かいにあります。私達は Melrose との境界辺りに住んでいるので、家からは車で2~3分です。まずこちらは Coffee, Tea & Me という家族経営のカフェ。 In the mid May, two new cafes were open near our home (the cafes are in Melrose).  They are located just across the street from each other.  This is "Coffee, Tea and Me", a family-owned cafe.

ここは色々な種類のコーヒー豆がそろっていて、注文ごとにフレッシュなコーヒーを淹れてくれます (アメリカではコーヒーは大概作り置きしてあるものが出されます)。紅茶もティーバックじゃなく、ちゃんとお茶の葉がでてきます。 Here wide variety of coffee beans are available, and each cup of coffee is brewed to order.  Also for the tea, loose leaf tea, not a tea bag, is used.

今までエスプレッソ、カフェラッテ、普通のコーヒーなど色々注文しましたがどれもみんな風味豊かでおいしい! 実は同じ通りにスターバックスもあって、以前はいつも行っていたのですが、ここができてからは行かなくなりました。 We have previously ordered many kinds of coffee including espresso, cappuccino, latte, dark roasted and medium roasted coffee, everything was very flavorful and tasty.  We used to frequent to a Starbucks located on the same street, but since this shop was open, we haven't been there.

さらにここには色々な種類のエンパナーダがあって、これがまたおいしいんです。 In addition to drinks, home-made pastries (muffines, etc) are also available.  But my favorites are empanadas!

写真上のはブレックファースト (卵、チョリソー、チーズ) で下のがビーフ。 The menu has 5 or 6 different empanadas  - these are the "breakfast" empanada with eggs, chorizo and cheese, and the beef empanada.  Yum!

さて、もう一軒は D'Amici's というイタリアンベーカリー。Lynn と Wakefield にもお店があって、ここが3軒目の支店です。 The other cafe is D'Amici's, which serves Italian pastries.  This is their third shop - other two are in Lynn and Wakefield.

ここはお店の横にもテーブルがあるので Poirot も一緒に来ることができます。 This cafe has tables outside, so Poirot can come and stay with us.

ここのコーヒー・紅茶はいまいち。なのでこの頃は Coffee, Tea & Me でコーヒーを買ってからこのお店に来てデザートを注文するようになりました。 Their drinks are not very good, thus these days we first get our coffee at Coffe, Tea & Me and then come here to get some sweets.

これはロブスターテールというもの。正式名は La Sfogliatella といいますが、発音できないのでいつもロブスターテールといって注文します。かなり大きくて長さ20 cm 以上あります。確かにロブスターの尻尾のように見えます。ぱりぱりの皮の中にカスタードクリームが入っていておいしいのですが到底一人では食べ切れません。 This is the lobster tail (la Sfoglitatella).  The poutside shell is very cruncy and the cream is sweet and smooth.  I like it but it is just too big...  It is difficult to finish it all even with two people...

そのほかにも、イタリアのお菓子の定番、カノーリ (写真右側のもの) や色々なケーキ、クッキーなどがたくさんあって、お客さんたちはみんなどれを注文しようかガラスケースの前でかなり悩んでいます。 And of course, cannolis and various different Italian sweets are also served.  Most of their customers have to spend quite some time in front of the show cases to decide what they want.  It is nice to have a good cafe or two nearby!
