Dinner at Tu Y Yo

今日は restaurant.com というウェブサイトから購入したお食事券 ($25 分のお食事券を $1 で買いました) を使うため、割と近所にあるメキシコ料理のお店 Tu Y Yo へやってきました。ちなみにここのメニューには昆虫のバッタを使ったお料理があります。メキシコ人がバッタを食べるとは知りませんでした。 To use a $25 gift certificate that I bought for $1 at restaurant.com, we came to Tu Y Yo, a Mexican restaurant in Somerville.  Their menu has tacos with grasshoppers.  I didn't know Mexican people eat grasshoppers!

まず前菜にハラペーニョ・マリア・ルイサという名前のお料理を注文。 First we ordered teh appetizer called Jalapeños Maria Luisa.

ハラペーニョペッパーの中に鶏肉を詰めてあげたもの。私が食べたハラペーニョはそんなに辛くなかったのですが、夫のほうはすご~く辛かったようです。 Jalapeño peppers were filled with shredded chicken and fried.  The one I ate was only mildly hot, but the Jalapeño my husband picked was very, very hot (according to him).  He was the lucky one.

私がメインディッシュとして頼んだのは Tinga という牛肉の煮込み料理。メニューには3種類の唐辛子が入っていると書いてあったのですが唐辛子の味はしなかったような…。 For my entree, I ordered Tinga (Angus shredded tender sirloin slow cooked in assorted peppers (ancho, chipotle and guajillo)).  According to the menu, it had 3 different peppers, but I didn't taste them at all...

夫はイカのソテーを注文。味自体はまあまあおいしかったのですが、出てきたのはほんのちょっぴり。これで $18 は高すぎると思います。夫は $18 も出したらチャイナタウンでは山盛りのイカが食べられると怒ってました。 My husband ordered Calamares Enjitomatados (Calamari sautéed with onions, garlic, tomatoes, scallions, chile de arbol and spices).  I liked its taste, but the portion was very small (even to me) for $18.  My husband was saying that with $18 in China Town, we could have heaped up our plates with calamari!

メインにはそれぞれご飯と豆の煮込んだものが付いてきます。これもごく普通。周りの人たちを見るとほとんどが私達と同じお食事券を使っていたようなので、それを見越した値段設定なのでしょうか? でもここはたとえクーポンがあってももう来ないかも。 Each entree comes with rice and beans, which was also just OK.  Looking around, most of the customers around us were using the same coupons that we used, so they may set higher prices to avoid their losses because of coupons.  But even with coupons, we may not come here for a very long time....
