Trip to Atlanta (4)

学会3日目の今日は、中休み (?) ということで午前の会議が終わった後は自由行動。そこで今日の夜ボストンへ戻る夫と一緒にお昼ご飯を食べに、有名なレストラン、Mary Mac's Tea Room へ行くことにしました。 Today my conference had only morning sessions and I was free in the afternoon.  So my husband and I went for lunch to the famous restaurant, Mary Mac's Tea Room.

ここは1945年に Mary McKenzie という人がオープンした歴史のあるお店名のですが、当時は女性がレストランを経営をすることは許されておらず、Tea Room (喫茶店) と名付けなければならなかったそうです。 This restaurant opened in 1945 by Mary MaKenzie.  At that time, women were not allowed to open restaurants so many female proprietors used the more genteel Southern name of “Tea Room”.

夫は地元産の Sweet Water というビールを注文。一口味見させてもらったのですが、名前のとおりほんのり甘みがあり、飲みやすい味。 My husband ordered the local beer called Sweet Water.  I tasted it and as the name suggests, it was slightly sweet.

小さなカップに入ったスープのようなもの (pot likker) とコーンブレッドが出てきました。 A cup of pot likker with cornbread was served (for free).

さらにロールパンとコーンブレッドが付いてきます。 In addition, more bread was provided.

私が注文したのはロースとポーク&グレービーソース。サイドディッシュが2つ選べるので、スイートポテトのスフレとオクラの揚げたのにしてみました。ポークはぱさぱさでいまいちでしたが、グレービーソースはおいしい！サイドディッシュもボリュームたぷりで値段の割りにお得です。 I ordered the roast pork with gravy.  Each dish comes with two side dishes of your choice, and I chose "sweet potato soufflé" (it was not really  soufflé, but more like mushed sweet potato) and fried okra.  Pork was dry and not very good but the gravy sauce was very tasty.  I also liked the side dishes.

夫はまたしてもフライドチキン。サイドディッシュはオクラ&トマトとクリームコーン。このクリームコーンがおいしい! この他にもたくさんサイドディッシュがあって、私達はメインのお料理よりサイドディッシュが気に入りました。もっとおいしいお店もあると思いますが、一度は訪れてみることをお勧めします。 My husband ordered fried chicken (again!) with okra & tomatoes and creamed corn.  I really liked the creamed corn.  We both preferred the side dishes to the main.  I know there are better restaurants, but recommend to visit here at least once.
