Trip to London, UK - Day 1 (4)

いったんホテルに戻って2時間ほどお昼寝したあと、夕食を食べに再び出かけました。今夜の夕食は Trinity というレストランです。ちょっと分かりにくい場所にあったので一瞬道に迷いましたが無事見つけることができました。 We went back to the hotel and took a nap for a few hours, then came out again for dinner.  Tonight we visited Trinity.  It was a bit difficult to find the restaurant and we had to look for it for a while, but eventually we found it.

席についてまず出てきたのがオーガニックのラディッシュとディップ。これが出てきたときはちょっとびっくりしましたが、ラディッシュがみずみずしくていくらでも食べられそう。 Soon after we sat at the table, organic radishes with some kind of dip were served.  I was surprised when I saw this dish as it was very unusual for an amuse, but the radishes were very fresh and I could't stop eating them.

パンは焼きたてが出てきました。バターはオーガニックのジャージーバターだそうです。 The bread was freshly baked and just out of the oven.  And the butter was organic Jersey butter.

アラカルトもあるのですが私達はテイスティングメニューを頼みました。夫はワインペアリングも注文。一応テイスティングメニューのお料理はメニューに記載されているのですが、アラカルトメニューにあるお料理に換えることもできます。これは一品目のお料理に合わせて出てきたワイン。フランスのスパークリングワイン (Francois Chidaine Montlouis Brut Methode Traditionnelle, Loire, France) です。 We ordered the tasting menu.  My husband also did the wine paring.  The dishes for the tasting menu were listed on the menu, but their tasting menu was actually very flexible and we were allowed to exchange some (or all?) of dishes to other dishes in the a la carte menu.  This is the wine came with the first dish  (Francois Chidaine Montlouis Brut Methode Traditionnelle, Loire, France).

一品目はかぼちゃのスープ。 The first dish was the Ironbark pumpkin soup.

小さなかぼちゃをくりぬいた中に、カッテージチーズとかぼちゃの種が入ったものも同時に運ばれてきました。これをお好みでスープに入れていただきます。かぼちゃは日本のものほど甘くはなかったですが、あっさりしていておいしかったです。 The soup came with a tiny pumpkin stuffed with curds and whey (and pumpkin seeds) which we put into the soup and eat all together. The soup was not as sweet as ones normally served in the US, but I liked it.

二品目のお料理に合わせたワインはニュージーランド産のピノノワール(Paddy Borthwick Paper Road Pinot Noir, 2009, Wairarapa, New Zealand)。 The wine served with the second dish was Pinot Noir (Paddy Borthwick Paper Road Pinot Noir, 2009, Wairarapa, New Zealand ).

二品目は鶉のキエフスタイル (にんにくやハーブ入りのバターを鶉の胸肉で巻いて衣を着け、揚げたもの)。 The second dish was the Quail Kiev. Garlic, herb butter, etc were wrapped with quail breast meat, coated with bread crumbs and fried.

私は鶉の代わりにアラカルトメニューにあった鯖にしてもらいました。鯖自体は日本で食べる塩焼きの味なのですが、付けあわせと一緒に食べると全く違った味になって面白い! Instead of the quail dish, I selected the mackerel dish from the a la carte menu. It was basically the grilled mackerel, but when eaten together with other garnishes (smoked Aubergine, yoghurt, pickled beets, etc), it tasted totally different and interesting.

3品目はオヒョウと蟹のトルテリーニ。トルテリーニにたっぷり蟹が入っていて嬉しい～。一緒に出てきたワインはフランス産の白 (Chateau Mourgues du Gres Costieres de Nimes Les Galets Dores, 2010, Rhone, France)。 The third dish was the halibut and crab tortellini in ginger broth. The tortellini had lots of crab meat and tasty. The accompanied wine was French white wine (Chateau Mourgues du Gres Costieres de Nimes Les Galets Dores, 2010, Rhone, France).

4品目はビーフウェリントン。牛肉のステーキと、マッシュルームのソテーがパイ生地で包まれています。お肉の焼き加減がばっちりです。ワインはサウスアフリカ産の赤 (Nabygelegen "1712", 2006, Wellington, South Africa)。 The forth dish was the beef Wellington. The beef steak and sautéed mushrooms were wrapped in puff pastry. The steak was perfectly cooked. The wine for this dish was South African red (Nabygelegen "1712", 2006, Wellington, South Africa).

お口直しにヨーグルト。グラスの下半分がヨーグルトで、上半分が生クリームなのですが、この生クリームがびっくりするほど濃厚でおいしい! 一口サイズのグラスで出てきたのですが、もっとたくさん食べたかった! Before the dessert, plum yogurt was served. The bottom half of the glass was the yogurt and the top half was the cream. This cream was amazingly tasty – I could have eaten much more of it.

夫のデザートはホワイトチョコレート。アイスクリームかと思ったらチョコレートをクリーム状にしたものでした。これはまあまあ。ワインはイタリア産のデザートワイン (Ceretto Moscato D'Asti "La Spinetta", 2010, Piedmone, Italy)。 My husband’s dessert was the white chocolate cream. This was OK (I am not a big fan of chocolate, anyway). The wine was Italian (Ceretto Moscato D'Asti "La Spinetta", 2010, Piedmone, Italy).

私はアラカルトメニューにあった、りんごのクランブルのスフレと蜂蜜のアイスクリーム。お~、ふわふわ、熱々でおいしい~。私のもおまけにオーストリア産のリースリングワインをサービスしてくれました。お客さんはどちらかというと若い人が多くて、わりとカジュアルな雰囲気ですがどのお料理もおいしくて、親切なサービスだったので大満足。この後ホテルに帰ってすぐベッドに飛び込んで寝てしまいました。疲れたけどなかなか充実した1日でした~。 I requested the apple crumble soufflé with honey ice cream for dessert. Ohhhh, the soufflé was hot, airy, and soooo yummy. And the restaurant offered me a glass of Austrian riesling (for free). Most of the clientele appeared relatively young (in 30’s?) and the atmosphere was casual, but all the dishes we had were good and the service was very friendly and efficient. So we were quite happy after the dinner. Then we went back to our hotel and I immediately hopped into the bed. We had a very exhausting but satisfying day today!
