NJ & NY Short Trip (2)

Today we went to the NY side by crossing George Washington Bridge from the NJ side.

We had Dim Sum for lunch at Jade Asian Restaurant in Flushing.

Dumplings with shrimp and Chinese vegetable. This had big chunks of shrimp and was very tasty.

Duck egg and pork porridge. I love porridge! But don't like duck egg, so I gave all of egg pieces to my husband.

They called this dish "fish tofu". It was steamed fish balls surrounded by tofu. I liked fish balls and flavorful soup.

I believe this was beef tendon, but I did not eat it so I am not very sure.

Steamed pork spare rib. This tasted much better than the same dish at China Pearl in Boston.

Haam Sui Gaau (deep fried oval-shaped dumpling made with rice-flour and filled with pork and chopped vegetables). This is one of my favorite dim sum dishes. But this one was a bit too greasy compared to the one served in my favorite restaurant in LA.

Rice noodle rolls with shrimp. Ummm, I didn't like the skin very much.

Stir fried octopus. Octopus was very soft and yummy...

Steamed custard buns. I liked the sweet custard, but the skin could be better... The bottom part of the skin was a little hard.

These are huge statues in the lobby of the new building in Flushing. I don't know who they are...

After lunch, we went to a Taiwanese bakery, Yee Mei Fong.

Moon festival is around the corner (9/22 this year). It is an important day in China and Taiwan, and is a national holiday. They celebrate this day with moon cakes. In this shop, they sell moon cakes around this time of the year, and we come here to get them almost every year.

We got 12 different flavored moon cakes.

The stamp on the cake said "green tea with yolk".

It has a yolk inside. It looks like full moon, indeed.

We got thirsty, so we went to Ten Ren Tea for some iced tea. This shop is originally from Taiwan but now has many branches mostly in NY and CA.

We ordered a large cup of star fruit flavored green tea.

These are the moon cakes sold at this shop. They are different from the traditional moon cakes, and looked similar to Japanese sweets. We bought one box which included 12 cakes. It was $36, which I think is kind of expensive...

We had the perfect weather today.

In the car on our way home, Poirot looked at me with his face pressing to his cage.

He was getting sleepy and...

Finally, Poirot fell asleep so deeply. He looked really ugly!
