Trip to Taiwan-Japan Day 12 (2)(京都 (Kyoto))

After the lunch, we went to Sanjūsangen-dō (meaning the hall with thirty three spaces between columns, describing the architecture of the long main hall of the temple).  My husband already visited many of famous temples/shrines in Kyoto, so I am running out of places to visit with him..  But this was the first visit to this temple for him.

This is the main hall - the national treasure.

This mail hall is very long (120 m), and inside are 1001 golden statues of Kannon (the bodhisattva associated with compassion as venerated by East Asian Buddhists).

It was an amazing view inside - soooooo many statues!  They were constructed in the 13th century or earlier.  By the way, it is forbidden to take pictures inside so we don't have pictures (my husband took this one by accident...).

Every year in January a popular archery tournament known as the Tōshiya  is also held here on the same grounds since the Edo period (inside this gate).
その後、京都駅まで戻って来てイノダコーヒ (最近初めて知ったのですが、"コーヒー"ではなく、"コーヒ"です) で休憩。

Then we went back to Kyoto Station, and took a rest at Inoda Coffee.

We ordered the sandwiches with ham, egg salad and vegetables.  Yum.

I come to this cafe since I was a kid, so I really like this cafe, but only thing I don't like is that they still have the smoking area - you can smell smokes even when you sit at one of the non-smoking tables!!  I wish they will become the smoke-free cafe in the near future.
