On the 21st of every month, the area around Touji Temple (which is located just 1 minute walk from my house) hosts a flea market known as "Koubou-ichi". Many antique shops, street food shops, etc are at the market. |
Our number 1 purpose to visit here is of course to eat! So many kinds of foods were available, and it was difficult to decide what to eat. |
Gohei mochi (rice cake with sweet-salty sauce). It smelled too good not to try it. |
Sweet, but salty (soy sauce), and goood! |
The fried chicken. Somehow my husband always orders fried chicken whenever and wherever he founds it... |
The grilled bamboo shoots. You can get it only this time of the year. |
It was very soft and juicy. I loved it! |
Of course we prayed, too (not only eating!). |
The five-storied pagoda. This is the tallest wooden building in Japan (55 meters). |
A cute dog taking a nap in the sun. He looked very comfortable. |
Japanese savory pancakes (we didn't eat them, though). |
We saw many antique shops, too. But I had no idea if these antiques were valuable or not. |
A Ninja dog!! |
He (she?) carried shurikens (meaning "swords hidden in the hand") and a katana (backsword). So pretty! |
Oden (Japanese style stew containing fish cakes, daikon radish, boiled eggs, etc, in a light broth). |
Daikon radish absorbed the broth and all other good flavors. Yum! |
And of course takoyaki (ball-shaped savory pancakes filled with diced octopus). |
This shop served huge takoyaki balls (bigger than the normal size). |
Dried squid. Looked good. |
I have no idea what this was... |
Is this a dog? How can you use it? Just for the decoration? |
Sweet potato fries! |
