Trip to Taiwan-Japan Day 3 (3)(台北 (Taipei))

お昼間に色々歩き回って疲れたのと時差ぼけとで (プラス食べ過ぎ) すご~く眠くなってきたので一旦家に帰ってお昼寝。その後、大好きな士林夜市へ夕食を食べに出かけました。きれい好きな人にはあまり合わないかもしれませんが、私は全然気にならないので大丈夫。これは来るたびにいつも食べるイカと筍の煮物、花技魷魚羹。 Due to the jet lag (and eating too much), I got very sleepy in the afternoon.  So we went home and took a nap.  Then at night we went to one of our favorite place in Taipei, Shilin Night Market.  This is the squid and bamboo shoot stew.  We always order this.

イカは生のものと干しイカの2種類が使われています。スープはちょっととろみがあっていつ食べてもおいしい~。 Two kinds of squid, fresh and dried, are used in this dish.  The broth was thick and very tasty.

同じお店で牡蠣のオムレツ、蚵仔煎を頼むのも私たちの定番です。 This is also our favorite, the oyster pancake.

大香腸と呼ばれるこのソーセージは巨大で、一人では到底食べ切れませんがハーフサイズもあるのでそれを注文。 These are huge sausages - it is almost impossible to eat it all by myself, but the half size is also available.

その場で食べやすいようにスライスしてくれます。 We ordered the half size, and it was sliced for ease of eating.

付け合せのにんにくのスライスと一緒に食べるとなかなか美味。 It came with the slices of garlic.  It was the good combination!

お次は大人気、いつも行列のできているフライドチキンのお店です。 Next was the very popular fried chicken place.  Always many people are waiting in line.

行列に並んで待っている間にお店の人からまず袋が配られます。 While waiting, plastic bags were provided.

そしてこれがフライドチキン。人間の顔くらいの大きさがあります。病み付きになる味です。本当は一人で全部食べられる位好きなのですが、色々他にも食べなくてはいけないので二人で一つで我慢。 And this is the fried chicken.  It was as big as my face.  This is very addictive and I could easily finish the entire piece, but since  we had to eat many other things, I decided to share it with my husband (very reluctantly, though).

これは潤餅捲という、揚げてない春巻の様なもの。 This is something similar to spring roll (but not fried).

クレープの皮の様なもので野菜などを包みます。 Various vegetables and meats are wrapped with the crêpe like dough.

中はこんな感じですが、この写真ではあまりよくわからないですね。 This is the inside.  But it is not very clear in this picture...

これは去年食べたかったのに食べられなかった海老の揚げ物。 This is the fried shrimp that I wanted eat last year but did not have a chance.

やっと食べられたとうきうきしながら食べたのに、海老がすご～く小さくて味もいまいち。どうりでこのお店は空いていたわけです。 I was very excited to try it, but unfortunately, it was not as good as I expected - the shrimp was very tiny (much smaller than it looked).  No wonder not many people were at this shop.

この辺で喉が渇いたので愛玉子ゼリー入りのジュースを購入。甘さ控えめでさっぱりしていて、これも大好き。いつも必ず飲みます。 We got thirsty and ordered the drink with Aiyu jelly. This is very refreshing.

愛玉子のお店はたくさんありますが、私達がいつも行くのは元祖、青蛙下蛋というお店 (士林夜市の中にいくつも支店がありますが、本店のが一番おいしいらしい)。 There are many shops for this drink, but we always go to the original one.

これは大餅包小餅のお店。名前の通り、小さいお餅というか、クラッカーのようなものを大きなお餅 (クレープ生地の様なもの) で包んだお菓子。 This is the shop for unique snacks - the direct translation of the name of this snack is "small bun wrapped in large bun".

これが包まれる方の“小餅”。 This is the small bun to be wrapped.  It is like a cracker rather than a bun.

まず、この“小餅”を半分に折った“大餅”の間に挟みます。 At first, place the cracker between two layers of the dough (large bun).

その後、大餅の上から金槌で叩いて中の小餅を砕きます。 Then crush the cracker by hitting with a hammer.

砕いたら、大餅を広げてお好みの味の粉を振り掛けて、巻きます。私達が選んだのは黒胡麻 (砂糖入り)。甘いものだけでなく、カレー味などもあります。 After crushing the cracker, open the dough and add the powder of your choice, then wrap it..  We chose the black sesame (containing sugar).  Many other flavors - not only sweet ones but also savory ones such as curry - are available.

中身はこんな感じ。中はさくさく、外はふんわりしていておいしい。大餅・小餅ともそれ自体は味があまりないので、加える粉によって色々違った味が楽しめます。 Inside is like this.  Soft outside, and crunchy inside.  The dough and cracker do not have a lot of taste, so one can enjoy different tastes depending on the flavors selected.

そして仕上げは、これもお決まりのフルーツがたっぷり入ったかき氷。 And finally, the shaved ice!

私達がいつも注文するのは牛乳 (プラス苺の果汁) を凍らせて作ったかき氷。ただの水でできたかき氷よりもまろやかでやさしい味。新鮮な苺もたっぷりで最高です。 We always ordered the shaved ice made of milk (plus fresh fruit juice).  It is softer and also more tasty than the shaved ice made of just water.  A lot of fresh strawberries on top of the ice.  This is the best!!

このほかにも本当に色々なお店が数え切れないほどあります。これは帆立を焼いたもの。 So many different kinds of food are available in the market.  This is the grilled scallops.

これは牛舌と呼ばれる焼菓子。 This is the sweet cracker called "cow tongue".

新鮮な南国の果物も格安で食べられます。 Fresh tropical fruits are sold at very reasonable price.

さとうきびもその場でジュースにしてくれます。 The freshly squeezed sugar cane juice is also available.

食べ物だけでなく、服や日用品のお店もあります。とある服屋さんの店先にこんな人形を発見。ぶらぶら歩いているだけでも楽しめます。 Not only food shops, but also shops for clothes, shoes, etc are in the market.  Just walking around is also a lot of fun!
