Trip to Portugal Day 6 (1) (Sintra - Palácio Nacional de Sintra)

今日はリスボンから電車で約４５分位の所にあるシントラという街に行ってきました。電車はロッシオ駅発で、15分から20分おきに出ています。 Today we visited Sintra, the city located outside Lisbon.  It takes about 45 minutes by train to go there.  Trains leave from the Rossio station every 15-20 minutes.

朝9時半ごろの駅はがらがらでした。 There were not many people at the station at 9:30 am.

電車も私達の乗った車両には始めほかの乗客は誰もいませんでした。途中の駅からちらほら人が乗ってきましたが。 Nobody else was in our vehicle...

各駅停車の電車で45分ぐらいしたら終点のシントラに到着です。 After ~45 minutes ride, we arrived at Sintra (this is teh local train which stops every single station on the way).

シントラはその文化的景観が世界遺産として指定されていて、王宮、ムーア城跡やペナ宮殿等見所いっぱいです。 The town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its 19th century Romantic architecture.  Sintra has many interesting places to see, including Palácio Nacional de Sintra, Castelo dos Mouros, and Castelo dos Mouros, and thus is the major tourist attraction

駅を出て、まずは歩いて15分くらいのところにある王宮に向かいます。丘の上に見えている、2本の尖がった煙突が特徴的なのが王宮です。 From the station, we walked for ~15 minutes to go to the Sintra National Palace.  The building with two unique chimneys on the top of hill is the palace.

王宮へ行く途中の道にムーアの泉があって、山の湧き水を汲むことができます。いつの時代のものか知りませんがイスラムっぽいデザインですね。アズレージョがきれいでした。 On the way to the palace, we found the Moorish Fountain, which is the natural fountain.  It is called for its Neo-Moorish decoration and geometrical tile patterns.

坂道を登りきったところで王宮に着きました。外観は王宮にしてはかなり地味なような気も...。もともとはムーア人の支配者の宮殿があり、その後12世紀にポルトガル王に征服されたのですが、そのころの宮殿は残っておらず、この建物は15世紀ごろに立てられたものだそうです。19世紀後半まではポルトガル王家が住み続けていたそうです。 At the end of the uphill is the palace.  The exterior is not very gorgeous for the palace (it looked like a warehouse or something to me)...  But it is the best preserved mediaeval Royal Palace in Portugal, having been inhabited more or less continuously at least from the early 15th up to the late 19th century.

入場券を買った後はこの階段を上って上の階へ。 After purchasing the tickets, we went upstairs through this staircase.

珍しい模様のタイル。多分マヌエル様式なのではないでしょうか。 The tiles with the unique designs.

こちらはもっと一般的なタイルの模様。 These are more familiar designs to me.

まずは白鳥の間へ入ります。 First we entered the Swan's Room (Sala dos Cisnes).

名前通り、天井には27羽の白鳥の絵が描かれています。天正遣欧少年使節団もここでポルトガル王に謁見したそうです。 This room is in the Manueline style, named so because of the swans painted on the ceiling.

この部屋には動物の頭の置物が。ぶさかわいい。 Three pieces of animal heads in this room.  They are ugly but cute.

お次は鵲の間。これまた天井に鵲が描かれています。 This is the Pegas' Room (Sala das Pegas).  The magpies are painted on the ceiling and the frieze hold the emblem por bem (for honour) in their beaks.

この部屋も壁のアズレージョがきれいです。 This room also has the beautiful Azulejos.

これは地球儀のアズレージョ? ポルトガルらしいですね。 These are the globe-motif tiles.  I have never seen such a design on tiles before.

これは誰かの寝室。 This is someone's bedroom (I forgot whose).

私の家の洗面所にこんなデザインのタイルが欲しい。どこかに似たようなの売ってるかな。 I would like to have these tiles in my bathroom...  Where can I get them?
